Re: Anchor Rode

At what time of day do they drop their hook? They are always there before me. Me too. They've usually motored past me an hour or so before while I persevere with a dying wind, and nab the best spots. Too much chain out is that old blowhard Tom Cunliffe's fault. He never balances need to be secure w...

Anchor Rode

There's a chippy "discussion" on TOP about rode lengths. I have no intention of joining, but I just want to record my annoyance of boats from "other parts of the UK" putting out far too much chain in smaller anchorages. Three times this summer I've arrived in sheltered spots know...

Re: the nights, the nights....

On The Other Place. I'm disappointed by the repeated spurning of the only true sailing forum for cantankerous men of a certain age in favour of the downmarket mass audience imitation.

Re: Where will I keep my boat?

There's a few references in the article to "Peel Waters". Is this meant to be Peel Ports? I want them nowhere near the place

Re: How Hot?

I can do 8.5knts now I recalibrated mine . . .

As for the temp - I wonder if the very top layer of water is quite a bit warmer due to the sun heating it up. So what the ST60 sees isn't a real measure of much.

Re: How Hot?

Yep, I've seen 20+ consistently on the west coast - warmer outside of the Clyde. There's a marine heatwave apparently. I don't think this is a good thing.

whaur's the burdz?

There seem to be a lot more seabirds around this year, after the ravages of bird flu. Just me, or have the others noticed too?

Re: Crinan Canal 2025 Opening / Restrictions

On specifics - point 3 is the main one for me too. It would be good to find out the proportion of dawdlers/sunday drivers vs those wanting to transit as quickly as possible. The marketing and organisation is towards those dawdling along (although the folks on the sea locks are a bit more clued up). ...

Re: Crinan Canal 2025 Opening / Restrictions

My experience of one individual on the board was that they were working their way up the tree of various Scottish govt quangos to impress the great and the good. SC is near the bottom - they moved onto something else more illustrious that they also knew nothing about after a couple of years. I canno...

Re: Clyde Estuary - Charge for Leisure Vessels !!!!!!

The Scottish Government should use this example (the PP Clyde proposal) to show Peel Ports that in Scotland the government will regulate private companies who abuse their position, by amending the Clyde Port Harbour Order to exclude leisure craft less than 24m. I agree, but would PP sue the scot go...
