Cruising, everyone is doing it
An excellent , genial cruise around Mull in the last 5 days. Craobh-Lismore, Lismore-Coll, Coll-Ulva, Ulva- Loch Buie, Loch Buie - Craobh. Weather was almost disconcertingly beautiful, and some great sails were had , but also the donkey got a good run. The thing that was really noticeable on this tr...

Re: Withdrawal Of Paper Charts and Digital Navigation Solutions
Some of this is pretty concerning: 1. Power supply, how long do you need your charts to last in the case of a power outage? 1 hour, 5 hours, 1 day? How is that power to be provided? 2. How expensive is a new SV-ECS setup going to be? The Raymarine "black box" sounds like a slightly despera...

Re: When did you last buy a chart?
I bought the clyde folio last year. I will buy up some more charts over the next months. Not sure we are ever really going to have good enough electronics ( back up power supplies, navigable screens for when GPS is spoofed) etc setups on small boats. Having had a chartplotter fail on me a few years ...

Indeed , I wish them all the best. Hopefully onwards and upwards. I think the Lucy's pop up has shown the new pub owners what they need to do.

Agree with Ken above. A soda stream cannister holds around 60 litres of gas at 1bar, a back of envelope calculation of the volume of a 2.9m dighy tube volume is around 800 litres. So a soda stream canister won't even get it floppy. The inflation cannister on a liferaft is pretty heavy.

I don't do Bloody stupid/sh1tt time. My watch stays at GMT/UT. I claim it's to make navigation easy, but its really to remind me the Government/Society insist on me getting up early ,in summer, when I don't need to, and I can blame them for something else that makes me grumpy. I live in scotland, it...

Re: LOTI
Standard gross margins for food and drink are around the 60% mark, so they are not low margin. Plenty of people can make hospitality work, it takes some skill, and an ability to work facing an often deluded public, but plenty of people make a good job of it. Several operations not a million miles fr...
