Kyle Rhea closure summer 2026
Those electric cables that cross Kyle Rhea need replacing this summer. This will require complete closure of Kyle Rhea on several days. Details are hard to come by at the moment but I heard that closures will be only from 10:00 to 16:00 on the days when they happen. Weather will play a part in when ...

Well I look forward to seeing you on the water. I hope you'll not have frozen before April when I hope my sailing season might get off to a slow start!

What to do with a retired inflatable?
This season, our 9 year old 3d tender round tail 235 started to lose pressure. While trying to find the leak, it lost a fitting that holds one of the side ropes on. That has been reglued. Subsequently, the leak was fixed using Inflatable Sealant but by then, it had been replaced. Does anyone in the ...

Tiny harbour by Port Appin
Does anyone know the story behind this tiny harbour in Airds Bay, east of Port Appin and west of the entrance to Loch Creran? The harbour is the little notch in the coast on the east side of Airds Bay, close east of the 0.9m spot depth and west of the Tree symbol. It must have taken quite a bit of e...

Re: Wanna buy a Marina?
It sounds good generally but I wouldn't set much store by this award; Dunstaffnage got theirs at the height (depth?) of their incompetence.

Do you remember "New Marina by Dunstaffnage"?
Well there's another Pre application consultation for something very similar in the same place, 0.5 mile east of Dunstaffnage. In outline, it comprises: "Marina; boatyard including ancillary offices (Class 4) and store (Class 6); leisure resort including buildings for offices (Class 4), leisure...

I've noticed a lot more gannets than I think of as normal in the Firth of Lorne. Dolphins,, which usually avoid me, have been abundant too.

Re: Interesting plans from Calmac
Given the state of many highland and island roads, there's little point in making any improvement in the links to/between the islands.
I note the the recent royal visit to Campbeltown avoided the Rest and be thankful in a way that's not available to many locals or visitors.

Scottish Anchorages website
There used to be a website, https://www.scottishanchorages.co.uk/, one man's view of places between Kintyre and Ardnamurchan. It seems to have disappeared. Does anyone know if it's final?
There's concern on TOP, where I have offered my copies of the pdfs from early this year.

Do you need a mooring near Oban?
There's a vacancy in West Connel Mooring Owners' Association. Would suit a boat less than about 35ft. Annual fee is only£45 (less than the current Crown Estate charge) and one-off joining fee of £10. The location is close southwest of Connel Bridge and the Falls of Lora. There are no shore facilitie...
